Astra 1G was a European communications satellite launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome aboard a Proton rocket. It was initially parked in a geostationary orbit at 23.9 deg E but was to be operated at 19.2 deg E. Its planned operational lifetime was a minimum of 15 years.
