Designator id: 1978-035A

Description of INTELSAT 4A-F6 Satellite:

INTELSAT 4A F-5 was one of a series of INTELSATs which form the global satellite system of the International Telecommunications Satellite Consortium, which consists of more than 80 member countries, represented by the Communications Satellite Corporation, the U.S. builds some of the INTELSATs and operates some of the ground stations. The present INTELSAT communication satellites are now in geostationary orbits above the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, providing thousands of new intercontinential radio links. In keeping with the trend toward more versatile world-wide communications, the new INTELSATs provide multiple access capabilities. The spacecraft was launched into a geostationary orbit and was located to meet COMSAT's international communications capability requirements.
